'Caps KickSmart program brings athletes to local schools
November 27, 2009
Last Friday Vancouver Whitecaps visited L’Ecole Bilingue Elementary School in Vancouver to deliver the final ‘Caps KickSmart Program of 2009 to over 450 boisterous youth.
Based on three main messages of respect, team spirit and always doing your best, Whitecaps FC midfielder Gordon Chin and alumnus Sam Lenarduzzi demonstrated how practice and dedication can lead to success both on the pitch and off. Excited volunteers were selected from the crowd throughout the presentation to try their “feet” at various skills and all excelled with the enthusiastic support of their classmates.
The ‘Caps KickSmart Program, presented by Save-On-Foods, is an initiative designed to promote healthy active living through sport. Along with professionally led soccer demonstrations, students also learn about the importance of proper diet and exercise as a means to living a healthy life.
This unique program visited 42 schools in Metro Vancouver between April and November, and reached a total audience of over 14,600 students. For the students, it represents a chance to meet the Whitecaps players up close, while for Whitecaps players, it’s a great opportunity to give back to the communities that support them, and reminds them all where the path to success begins.
The Whitecaps would like to thank Save-On-Foods for their support of this fun and educational program. For more information on the KickSmart program and getting the Whitecaps to your school in 2010, please click here.
