TransLink partnership will see Whitecaps Foundation volunteers assist travellers and commuters during the Olympics

The Whitecaps Foundation and TransLink are partnering during the seventeen days of the Vancouver 2010 Olympic Winter Games to help transit travellers find their way and assist with what is expected to be record crowds at SkyTrain stations.

The Whitecaps Foundation will provide eighty volunteers, who will be present on each day to assist TransLink and Canada Line staff during peak transit hours during the Olympic Games. Volunteers will be on hand to aid in crowd queuing and to provide directions, travel information, and estimated wait times. “This will provide an opportunity for the Whitecaps Foundation to be involved in a once-in-a-lifetime event, and to demonstrate our commitment to the community,” said Whitecaps Foundation president Bob Lenarduzzi.

TransLink has identified the Whitecaps Foundation as a strong contributor to the local community and the chance to volunteer was offered as an opportunity to raise the Foundation’s profile locally.

The Whitecaps Foundation is a federally registered charity that is working to help create the fittest generation of BC youth by 2020. Through fundraising for priority initiatives, powerful community alliances, and strategic partnerships, the Whitecaps Foundation is instilling and reinforcing balanced, healthy living habits in youth throughout the province. Its success will be measured by the physical, mental, social, emotional, and cultural wellness of the youth it reaches, and their readiness to make positive and lasting contributions to society.
