The Whitecaps Foundation (“Foundation”) is committed to earning and keeping your trust and confidence. We conduct our operations in a transparent manner and are accountable to all of our donors, partners, volunteers, friends, vendors and the community at large.
We know that you have a lot of organizations competing for your generous donations, attention and time. We also know that you have a lot of choice when it comes to engaging with charities. We hope that this privacy policy is but one demonstration of our commitment to you. It is designed to protect the personal information you provide on our website. Please take the time to read this policy and contact us with any questions or concerns.
Personal Information – Definition
Personal information is any information that can be used to distinguish, identify or contact a specific individual. Exceptions: Businesss contact information and certain publicly available information, such as names, mailing addresses, email addresses and telephone numbers as published in telephone directories, are not considered personal information.
Privacy Practices
The Whitecaps Foundation complies with BC’s legislation and regulations governing the collection and use of personal information (Personal Information Protection Act – PIPA) .
All staff, volunteers, contractors and our database/website vendors sign and adhere to strict confidentiality agreements regarding the use of personal information.
The Foundation will not sell, rent or share your personal information to outside/third party organizations or individuals.
We will make best efforts to keep your information up to date and accurate.
Collection/Use of Personal Information – Website
The Foundation operates a website to provide individuals with information about our programs, partners, the charitable sector, who we help and the Foundation itself, among other things. When you visit our site, you are anonymous.
However, if you make a donation, become a volunteer, request a donation, or subscribe to publications, we collect some basic information about you. We understand that some of this information is private. We collect it for the following reasons:
- To process your donation and send out your charitable tax receipt, if applicable;
- To communicate with you through periodic contact in print, verbally or electronically; to provide information about our programs, services, special events, funding needs, opportunities to volunteer or give and more; and
- To build a relationship with you, to understand your needs and to better serve you.
We provide regular opportunities for our friends, supporters, donors and vendors to opt out of further communication from the Foundation. To opt out, simply click on the unsubscribe button/link and follow the instructions.

We will often provide website visitors with links to third party organizations’ websites. We do not control those sites, nor do we necessarily endorse their products/services/opinions.
